The past month has flown by but has been such a joy! The day after I got back from the Finca, I began teaching kinder again. It has been such a blessing to be back with my kinder kiddos. They have grown so much since the last time I had seen them. I missed hearing their little voices whine "profa" and their sticky hands giving me an embrace. The first of September, day of the flag, marked the beginning of the month full of Nation wide celebrations. The 15th of September is independence day in Honduras. We had a huge celebration at the school which included a school-wide parade with a band (which the students have been practicing for for months), princesses, and other costumes. My kinder kids dressed up as a police officer, firefighter, doctor, bird, band member, and independence day queen (seen in picture below). Despite the heat, lots of walking, and complaining, they successfully walked the entire parade route and made it to the end to salute the flag. In addition to the national pride that is felt throughout this month, we also celebrated dia del nino (day of the child). At the school, the kids were spoiled with a day off of learning and filled with snow cones, pinatas, games, a special visitor (see picture below), and lots and lots of junk food and treats. On the actual day of the child (Sunday, September 10), we celebrated inside the Finca just with our kids and had a full day party with a kiddie pool, a trampoline, hamburgers/french fries (a treat in Honduras), games, snow cones, candy, cake, and a movie in the campo under the stars. It was a special holiday that I felt blessed to celebrate. The kids here at the Finca, not only at that day which specifically celebrated them, but everyday, are a constant reminder to me of what it truly looks like to live with childlike faith and joy. As Jesus tells us, “Unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me" - Matthew 18:1-5
Thank you for your continued support and prayers. They truly are felt here at the Finca and are appreciated more than you know. Blessings!
